What is the Texas Instruments Educational Matching Gift program?
The TI Foundation Matching Gift program was established in 1970 to encourage
Texas Instruments employees, retirees and directors to contribute to colleges and
universities. The Foundation matches those gifts dollar for dollar within certain
guidelines.
What is the goal?
The goal is to encourage contributions to educational institutions. Dollars you
contribute to eligible institutions will be matched up to $10,000 on a dollar-for dollar
basis by the foundation.
Is it open to anyone?
The program is open to all Texas Instruments employees (active or on LOA) retirees
and directors. All applications must be signed by the qualifying TIer. Spouses do not
qualify for matching gifts.
Do the schools need to be located in the US?
Public and non-profit private and charter schools serving students from kindergarten
-12th grade and which are physically located in the United States will be considered
for matched funding.
What about organizations whose sole purpose is to raise money for a
school?
They must be tax –exempt education funds whose whole purpose to raise money for
a school which is individually eligible under the program.
Why has Kindergarten through 12th grade been added to the matching gift
list?
The board of the TI Foundation choose to strengthen this program by including
grades K-12 for public, non-profit private, and charter schools.
How do I know if the school qualifies for the TI Foundation Match?
Public schools will qualify under the program. A private or charter school will qualify
if it is operated on a non-profit basis and has been recognized by the IRS as a
501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. The school administration can tell you if these
criteria have been met.
What educational donations are matched?
- U.S. public, private and charter schools serving students from grades K-12
including tax-exempt school district foundations whose sole purpose is to
raise money for their districts
- Four or two year non profit private or public colleges or universities physically
located in the United States that grant associate, bachelors, masters or
doctoral degrees and are listed in the Higher Education Directory
- Tax-exempt education funds whose sole purpose is to raise money for its
member colleges and universities, which are individually eligible under the
program.
- Alumni funds, foundation or associations that have a tax-exempt status and
are affiliated with an eligible institution, and the institution certifies that all
such contributions are applied directly to or in support of its primary
educational objectives.
What is the minimum and maximum amount that will be matched by the TI
Foundation?
The minimum is $50.00 and the maximum is $10,000.
What is the criteria for determining what organizations qualify?
The institution must be accredited by one of the six nationally recognized
associations. The institution must also be recognized by the Internal Revenue Service
for tax-deductible contributions.
How should the gift be made?
Gifts may be cash, personal checks, money orders or securities directly to the
organization.
What is the deadline for having my gift matched?
Deadline for processing prior year gifts must be postmarked no later than February 15 of the new year.
Can I designate my gift for a particular school or department?
Gifts can be designated for a particular school, department or purpose as long as it is
within the policy of the TI Foundation. Capital, operational, instructional, research
equipment, scholarship funds and staff development are within the Foundation’s
policy. All other Foundation gifts will be unrestricted. (Check the school district’s
guidelines.)
What is considered ineligible for matching funds?
- Tickets for purchasing meals, performances or fund-raising special events,
tuition or gifts for the benefit of an individual student scholarships, and
nonacademic programs, such as any athletic related activities or athletic
booster clubs, stadium construction, glee clubs, school choirs or drill teams
- Gifts for athletic scholarships and nonacademic programs, such as any

- Dues to alumni groups or other groups (fraternities and sororities) that are
not distributed to affiliated eligible educational institutions
- School travel or conferences
- Bequeaths, memorials
- Contributions reimbursed by or made on behalf of another individual or
organization
- Payment for dues or subscription fees for publications
- Pledged gifts
- Gifts-in-kind
- Insurance premium payments
- Gifts intended to fulfill a person’s pledge tithes or other church-related
financial commitment.
How do I apply for a match?
Fill out the matching gift application form at the end of this document:
- Individual: Fill out the area marked Part “A” and send to the educational
institution with your gift.
- When the institution receives the donation and form they will need to
complete Part “B”
- This verifies the receipt and intent of the gift in accordance with the TI
guidelines.
- The institution then sends the entire form with proof of contribution if gift is
over $250.00 to the TI Foundation.
- The Texas Instruments Foundation verifies that the gift qualifies for a match,
and requests the check, which is made payable to the receiving organization.

What is the Texas Instruments Arts and Cultural Matching Gift program?
The TI Foundation Matching Gift program was established in 1979 to encourage
Texas Instruments employees, retirees and directors to contribute to the arts. As of
December 31, 2006 the TI Foundation had matched $3,811,057 to arts and cultural
organizations.
What is the goal?
The goal is to provide an effective way of assisting you in contributing to the quality
of community life.
Is it open to anyone?
All Texas Instruments employees (active or on LOA) retirees, and directors qualify
for this matching gift opportunity. All applications must be signed by the qualifying
TIer. Spouses do not qualify for matching gifts.
What defines an eligible arts and cultural organization?
Tax deductible arts and cultural organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S.
Internal Revenue Code, that are in the field of arts and culture, are nonsectarian,
nonpolitical and open to nondiscriminatory public participation, and are broadly
supported by the community, such as:
- Performing arts groups including orchestras, theatres, opera companies,
dance companies, performing arts centers or cultural centers.
- Museums of art, history or science preservation organizations.
- Public television and radio stations that are qualified by Public Broadcasting
Service (PBS) or National Public Radio (NPR) and listed in the Corporation for
Public Broadcasting Directory; and those licensed to colleges and universities.
How many gifts can be made to arts and cultural organizations?
Gifts can be made to more than one organization.
What is the minimum and maximum amount that will be matched by the TI Foundation?
The minimum tax-deductible single gift eligible for an arts and cultural match by the
TI Foundation is $50.00. The maximum amount of all gifts by an individual in any
year (January 1 through December 31) that will be match is $10,000. Gifts may be
cash, personal checks, money orders or securities having daily published market
values.
Can my gift be designated?
Gifts may be designated by donor for operations or capital campaigns. The
Foundation’s matching gift will be in the form of an unrestricted gift.

be forwarded directly to the organization with the application.
What is considered ineligible for matching funds?
- Tickets for purchasing meals, performances or fund-raising special events.
- Personal memberships for which substantial benefits are received.
- Contributions reimbursed by or made on behalf of another individual or
organization.
- Payments of dues or subscription fees for publications. Gifts for the benefit of
individuals; value of premium gifts made to donors in exchange for contributions will be
ducted from the match.
- Gifts must be made, not merely pledged.
- Gifts or payments to for-profit or commercial organizations.
- Volunteer hours.
- Gifts must be made not merely pledged.
- Gifts-in-kind.
- Gifts intended to fulfill a person’s pledge tithes or other church-related
financial commitment.
